Macedon Ranges Shire Council

About This Shire

The Macedon Ranges is located in the central part of Victoria and has a population of over 45,000. The shire includes the towns of Clarkefield, Gisborne South, Gisborne, Kyneton, Lancefield, Macedon, Malmsbury, Mount Macedon, New Gisborne, Riddells Creek, Romsey and Woodend.

Visit the iconic Hanging Rock, a sacred place for local indigenous people and backdrop to Joan Lindsay’s book Picnic at Hanging Rock and Peter Weir’s film of the same title, marvel at the wonders of the Anti-Gravity Hill or sample the famed mineral water (the locals’ secret to good health) at the Kyneton Mineral Springs Reserve. Only two hours away from Melbourne, the Macedon Ranges has plenty to offer.
